This is the life-story of a woman whose strength and determination
have helped her overcome the stigma of being declared a traitor and
tortured under Pinochet’s regime to accept the challenge of building
a new future for her country. Description in Spanish: “La vida de
Michelle Bachelet no ha sido fácil. Pero ¿quién tiene una vida
fácil?, preguntó ella misma la noche de su triunfo electoral. Cuando
era ministra de Defensa quisimos conocerla y hacer un libro con su
historia para entender cómo fue el proceso que muy pronto la llevaría
a la presidencia de la república. De dónde sacaba fuerzas esta hija
del general Bachelet, acusado por el gobierno de Pinochet de traición
a la patria, torturado por sus pares y muerto en la cárcel. Ella
también fue encarcelada y torturada junto a su madre. Sin embargo una
vez que asumió el ministerio de Defensa fue capaz de entenderse con
los militares y hacerse respetar. En marzo de 2006 entró en La Moneda
como presidenta, dispuesta a construir el futuro sin que el pasado le
impidiera avanzar hacia la total reconciliación.
