Effects of Herbs and Natural Products on Clinical Laboratory Tests
complements AACC's publications on Effects of Drugs on Clinical
Laboratory Tests, Effects of Disease on Clinical Laboratory Tests,
and Effects of Preanalytical Variables on Clinical Laboratory Tests,
which provide the background information necessary to interpret
clinical laboratory test values. This publication provides both new
entries and entries that were previously considered as being related
to Drugs and/or Preanalytical Variables. Unlike other books in the
Effects series, Effects of Herbs and Natural Products includes
narrative accounts of the history of herbal medicine and a detailed
discussion of both clinical and laboratory effects of commonly used
herbs and natural products. As with the other Effects publications,
condensed information is organized into five sections. The first
section lists laboratory tests; and the second, herbs and natural
products with appropriate cross-references. The third and fourth
sections are alphabetic sorts by laboratory test and by herb or
natural product name, respectively. Each entry describes the effect
of a specific variable affecting a patient or a specimen removed from
a patient, with a succinct explanation of the mechanism of the
effect. The fifth and final section is a compilation of all the
references, which are sorted in numerical sequence and provided to
enable a more detailed understanding of the cited effects.
