ISBN: 0591249154
Summary:
The purpose of this study was to compare selected family
characteristics and level of family satisfaction between identified
high achievers (gifted children) and their randomly selected peers.
Parents of 32 high achieving (gifted) children and 41 randomly
selected children completed the Family Environment Scale and the
Family Satisfaction Scale. No significant differences were found
between the two groups on other side. However, further examination of
the data found a strong relationship between the Cohesion subscale of
the Family Environment Scale and the overall level of family
satisfaction. In addition, moderate relationships were found between
family satisfaction and Organization, and Expressiveness subscales on
the Family Environment Scale. In general, the strongest relationship
to family satisfaction were found on those cluster of subscales which
reflected internal family functioning.
